"I don't know..." Lola mumbled, her brow furrowed in agitation.
The rest of the Alley Cats groaned in frustration. Eddy, the bass guitarist growled,"We've already practiced the same song fifteen times."
Lola sighed and turned to her band members,"Look, I know guys, and I know we're all tired, but this has to be PUUUURFECT!"
"It IS, Lola!" shouted Kiki, the keyboardist.
"OK OK! Just one more time from the top, OK?"
A bunch of moans escaped everyone, except for Lola and Adrienne. Adrienne could listen to the Alley Cats all day, and Lola wouldn't stop until everything was perfect.

Lucy knocked on the door nervously. Should I even be here? Maybe I should go... Well, no one has opened the door yet, so maybe I could get away without anyone seeing me.... She started to walk off when-
"Lucy? What are you doing here?"
She turned around quickly,"Hi, Blake! Um... I, uh, baked these for you!"
He looked left and right confused,"Thanks? I think..... Aside from the wonderful smell emanating from your basket, you shouldn't have come here. I thought we both agreed that it was a bad idea."
"Well, we did! But, I couldn't wait to see you, and...."
He sighed shaking his head,"You stupid woman." Then he hugged her.
She smiled as she melted into his arms,"So was it so bad after all that I came?"
"Yes," he mumbled, his voice muffled by her hair,"but I forgive you."
She laughed,"Good, because I brought cookies."
"And how could I not forgive you then?" then they walked into the house.
Ria was just walking down the busy streets of Light City when she had a sudden whim to go to Adrienne's. She new she wasn't going to be there, but she could check up on her dad and that was worth it all the same. She started on the dark, lonesome path to Dark City. When she finally got to Adrienne's street, she saw Aaron checking a mailbox.
Her eyes lit up,"Aaron!"
He jumped and turned around,"Hi?"
"Hey!"
When she got closer, he recognized her. It's Ria Abbott! Wait, what's she doing in Dark City?
She bounded straight up to him but stopped short. She hadn't really thought about this very far, and she didn't know what to say. She blushed, embarrassed,"Um, whatcha doin' here?"
"I live here...."
Idiot! "On this street?"
"Yup"
"Cool! This is the same street my si-best friend lives on."
He shrugged,"Cool."
She leaned back and forth on her heels,"So, um, the other day at Kacy's Cafe..."
His eyes widened. Does she think I was following her?! "Look, I wasn't-"
"You like coffee?"
"Um," He wasn't expecting this,"Yes?"
"Cool! Do you, maybe, wanna go get coffee? Sometime ya know?"
He smiled sheepishly,"Uh, sure."
"Cool!" There was another awkward silence,"So, when are you available?"
He shoved his hands in his pockets and watched her unsure,"I'm free.... now. If you wanna go."
Right now?! How am I supposed to do this? I'm not ready! We can't go now! "Sure! I'm free." She smiled. So they walked to Kacy's Cafe together.

Ryan and Mitchell were in the forest waiting for Aaron. The three of them were supposed to get some target practice with their guns, but Aaron was really late.
"Where is he?" Ryan growled.
"I don't know, but I don't think I can wait any longer. He's already fifteen minutes late!" Mitchell griped.
Ryan rolled his eyes,"You said the same thing when he was just three minutes late."
"Well! What's takin' 'im so long!" he cocked his gun, aimed, and fired. A smile spread across his face as he heard the loud bang echo through the trees. These were some of the only few times he was truly happy.

"You just can't be patient can you?" Ryan retorted.
Mitchell only laughed,"Nope!"

Jinx was laying in the attic just talking to his cats. And his neighbors cats, and possibly a few strays. It was SO much easier than talking to people. He had a few balls of yarn sitting out and the cats seemed to enjoy them as much as he did. But today, he wasn't in the mood to play. He had messed up yet again with Adrienne, and he didn't know what to say to her. He felt so comfortable around her, as if she was a cat too, but yet she was also so unapproachable that he didn't know how to open up to her. He knew he needed to before it was too late to, but he didn't know when, where, and how to do it. He sighed as the newest cat started clawing his tail. He swished it back and forth and grinned at the silly cat jumping every time the tail touched it.
.............................
Aaron was very nervous as he ordered coffee and Ria ordered tea. When they sat down, she started talking. They were in a window seat, and the light was shining perfectly on her. He realized how beautiful her eyes were when he saw the sun reflecting its shine through them. She didn't seem to be very aware of how beautiful she really was. Once again, he didn't understand how anyone would want to pick on this innocent girl. As the hours passed by, he listened intently to every word she said, and he even found himself talking and laughing with her, He found out that her favorite color was pink, she liked soft Indie music, she wanted to be either an artist, baker, or she wanted to work at an animal shelter. Her favorite animal was a dolphin, and she loved the beach. He smiled at all of the funny things she didn't realize she did, and he laughed at her jokes. She was a truly amazing girl.
.........................................
At first when Ria and Aaron went to Kacy's Cafe, she wasn't prepared, and she was afraid that she would say something wrong, or be too pushy like she was when she first met Adrienne, but once she started talking, she couldn't stop! She was obviously talking the most, but after a while, Aaron started adding some things, and laughed some, and actually started making his own conversations instead of vaguely answering her. She learned that his favorite color was forest green, he liked hard rock music, he had no plans for the future, his favorite animal was a golden retriever, and he loved being in the forest. He had a thing for nature, and so did she. He seemed really distant and cold when she had first met him, but she couldn't believe she had even thought of him like that before! He seemed like someone who follows his own path, but he actually followed the rules excellently. He was nice, and gentlemen like, even though he didn't understand the entire world of manors. She smiled as he laughed at one of her silly, pathetic jokes.
"I'm having an amazing time, Aaron, thanks for coming."
He smiled at her,"Thanks for inviting me." There was a small silence when they were just smiling at each other and then he started again,"OK, OK, favorite food?"
"Hmmmm...." She pretended to think about it,"Big, leafy lettuce! It's even better when made into a salad. So, yours?"
"Well, I guess it would be... steak. Definitely steak."
They chatted until it was around lunch time and they were really hungry. So they left the cafe and Aaron took her too The Shake Shack. Ria ordered a strawberry milkshake and turned to Aaron to see what he would order. He smiled and paid the man at the cash register. Ria frowned,"You don't want a milkshake?" It had been her idea to get milkshakes and now she wished she had picked something else. Not that she didn't want one.
"No, I had a big breakfast. I would love to get one, but I'm still too stuffed."
She smiled reassured,"Oh, OK."
The truth was that he actually hadn't ate anything yet and he was starving, but he only had enough money to buy one milkshake. He would have had enough money to buy one if Ryan hadn't borrowed twenty bucks from him earlier. Then it dawned on him, he was supposed to have target practice with Ryan and Mitchell at least three hours ago. Oh well. They'll understand, right? Besides, she might think I'm rude if I leave now.
"You were saying?" he asked.
"I'm having an amazing time, Aaron, thanks for coming."

Adrienne was on her way home from Lola's house. She had been there for almost the entire day, then went out for lunch with them, so she was ready to go back home. As she pulled into the driveway, she saw her mom's car. Mom? What's she doing here? I thought they said they weren't allowed to see each other. She walked inside,"Dad! I'm home!"
"In here, Adds!" he yelled to her from the living room. Her parents were sitting on the couch watching some old movie drinking soda and eating cookies. She grinned at the sight of her mom cuddled up beside her dad. The whole house seemed happier, brighter somehow, like it was supposed to be.
"Oh, hello Adrienne!" Lucy beamed,"How was the Alley Cats' practice?"
"Good... So... What're you doing here? I mean, I'm glad you decided to stop by, but I thought you guys said you couldn't stay together."
Blake answered,"She was just dropping off some cookies," he held one up,"and we got... distracted."
Lucy smiled at her,"Wanna join us, sweetie?"
Adrienne thought about it for a second. Would it be rude to interrupt there little date, or would it be better if I did? "Sure, OK. Whatcha watching?" she sat on the couch beside her mom.
...............................................
Jinx had been sitting in the attic for hours just playing with his cats when he started thinking about Adrienne and Ria. Should I just go and tell Adrienne how I feel? Would she laugh? Would she care? She probably doesn't feel the same way. But what if she does? I would never know! And knowing she doesn't like me the way I like her is better than not ever knowing. Besides, I'm sure she doesn't because she is a very straightforward person, so if she DOES like me, she would have probably already told me. I'll just tell her so she knows, and then she can just tell me she doesn't like me like that, and then I can gyet over her. Done and, well, I'll work on the second part. I'm sure I can get over her, right? No. I never will. UGH JUST GO JINX! He arose from his cat like position on the windowsill and headed to Adrienne's house.
..............................................
Aaron and Ria were having tons of fun on their "sort-of" date. Neither of them knew whether it was a date or not, and neither one brought it up until Ria got brave enough to ask. "Um, Aaron?"
"Hmm?"
"Are we, like, um, on a, a date?"
"Oh,"
She blushed bright red wondering why she was so stupid as to ruin the entire day with her stupid question. He's so surprised he's speechless! WHY. WHY did I just HAVE to go and ruin everything? We're obviously just friends.
He blushed as well,"I kind of thought we were."
She smiled triumphantly,"Yeah." Then she took his hand and smiled into his bright, blue eyes. Maybe this wasn't such a bad idea anyways! It took him a second to understand he was supposed to hold her hand too. It was like the action just wasn't a pat of his everyday movements. They talked about stupid, pointless matters and laughed about it until the sun set. As it set, he realized that Ria would have to go home soon. It wasn't safe for anyone let alone a beautiful girl like Ria to be out at night. The fight with Ryan filled his mind again and he shuddered.
"Something wrong?"
"No, just cold."
She took off her scarf and put it around his neck,"There ya go! Warm?"
He smiled,"Yeah, much warmer."
It got even more beautiful as the sun faded even more. He turned to her. She was so beautiful, and pure. He didn't understand how he even ended up getting the chance to go on a date with this wonderful girl. He lightly smoothed some of her her behind her ear and looked deeply into her eyes.
Ria stayed stock still, as if she moved at all, she would scare him. She suddenly knew what that warm, fuzzy feeling was. She understood every aspect of it. She was in love. And she couldn't imagine life anymore without the handsome boy in front of her. Her heart started pounding as he got closer to her. He leaned down as if he was going to kiss her, and then he stepped back. Her legs felt jelly-like from her almost-experience.
"You should probably go home, it's starting to get dark, and Dark City is not the place you wanna be at nighttime."
"Oh," she breathed,"I was actually going to.... go to Adrienne's house. Yup. We were...going to have a, uh, slumber party! Yeah, so um, yeah." She glanced to the sky in embarrassment.
"Alright, well I'll take you there, OK?"
"Yeah, OK."
He glanced around before dropping her off at Adrienne's but then smiled at her and said,"Tell Adrienne and her dad I said hi."
"Oh, OK!" She opened the door, although she was still facing him.
He glanced behind her, then a confused look spread across his face,"Isn't that your mom?"
She turned around and, to her amazement, her mom, dad, and Adrienne were sitting on the couch watching a movie and eating hamburgers. There were multiple bags of chips that were everywhere, and a basket of her mom's homemade cookies were sitting on the coffee table. "What? No. That's not my mom, she must be one of Da-Mr. Millet's friends!"
He raised an eyebrow, but decided to let it go,"OK, well-"
"See you tomorrow?"
"Uh, sure."
"Lunch? Kacy's Cafe?"
He smiled,"Sure."
She closed the door after saying goodbye, and he slowly walked down the steps of Adrienne's porch and down to his house. When he came inside, he saw his mother pacing the floor in front of the stairs. "Mom? What's up?"
She jumped and when she turned and saw him, she marched up to him and grabbed his arm,"Where have you BEEN young man?! I sent you out to go get the paper, because you so insist on doing it instead of the maid, and you never return!"
"Oh, I'm sorry, Mom, I... bumped into a friend and we got busy catching up." He was afraid to tell his mother specifically what he was doing, because love between citizens from Light City and Dark City was forbidden. Then he realized something very important. He was in love with Miss Light City Ria Abbott.
"Well Ryan and Mitchell have been upstairs in your room waiting for you for HOURS. Get up there, now!"
OK! OK! I'm sorry!" He hadn't thought about his parents caring where he was, because the house is so big, they didn't notice when he was in it or not. He ran up the stairs quickly and into his room. Mitchell was lying on his bed throwing a basketball in the air, and he didn't see Ryan. Suddenly, the door closed behind him. He jumped as he heard the creak, and then the shutting noise. He turned and saw Ryan half-hidden by the shadows.

"Where've you been, Aaron?" he hissed in a low voice.
"Yeah, where HAVE you been?" Mitchell demanded loudly.
"Sorry guys, I totally forgot about target practice until it was too late."
"As you can see," Ryan growled,"We have been waiting for you the entire time. So it WOULDN'T have been 'too late'."
"So what were you doing that made you forget so suddenly?" Mitchell glared at him.
"I was just... out."
"Out where?"
"With, um, Ria Abbott." he whispered in a tiny voice.
The room got VERY quiet. Even Mitchell was silent. Ryan's voice pierced the silence with its own demands,"Are you telling me you have a crush on Little Miss Goody-Two-Shoes?"
"What? No!" Definitely not a crush. MUCH more than that. "I was just trying to be nice! She was having a slumber party at Adrienne's house,"
"Who?"
"Her friend. And she got lost and couldn't find her way. It was around lunch time, and I was starving, and Adrienne's house was on the other side town, and so I stopped at The Shake Shack."
"So...." started Mitchell,"You took her out on a date?"
"WHAT?! Of course not! But, I couldn't just leave her there, so we talked for a bit..."
"Dude! That bites!"
Ryan rolled his eyes at Mitchell then glared at Aaron,"Look, it will NEVER happen. This little "crush" you have on her will NEVER work out. What do you even like about her anyways?"
Aaron looked down and tongued the inside of his cheek,"She's just really nice, OK?"
Ryan got right in his face and spoke in a low, dark tone,"You are not a 'nice' kind of guy. You will only corrupt her 'niceness' and make her exactly like you. Evil and cruel. So the next time you start thinking of 'hanging out' with her, just remember that you would do her a favor by NOT. OK?"
Aaron hung his head,"Yeah."
Ryan smiled,"Glad we had this talk."
................................................
Ria slowly creeped into the living room and grinned at her crazy family yelling what the people on TV chould and shouldn't do. Then Blake turned and saw her in the doorway,"Hey, Ria, come here and help us!"
"With what?"
"EAT!" he laughed and held his hand out. She smiled and joined them beside her dad.
"Let's just do what they say." Ria saighed.
"Fine," Adrienne huffed,"Love you guys. Night." she ran upstairs.
Ria hugged and kissed Lucy on the cheek like every other night, and then hesitantly did the same for Blake and smiled,"Goodnight, Mom, Dad, I love you both." Then she followed Adrienne upstairs.
"With what?"
"EAT!" he laughed and held his hand out. She smiled and joined them beside her dad.
......................................................
Jinx was almost there so he picked up his pace. There it is! he thought with glee I finally made it to Adrienne's house! He stumbled throught the dark to her door. He was about to knock on it, when he heard abunch of laughter inside. I don't want to catch her at a bad time... Maybe I should come back. NO! I've already walked this far, she's probably just watching TV. I'll just go check at the window to make sure... When he came around to her wondow, she wasn't in her room. So he went back down and looked through the large living room window. Most people wouldn't have been able to see through it, but he could. Then, he saw Adrienne, Ria, Ms. Abott, and Mr. Millet. The sight of it made him so angry he almost bust the door down! After everything I've told them, warned them not to disobey The Council, Here they are doing it! They'll get killed! And I'm not going to stand by and watch this happen. Then he trudged all the way back to his house in a fury.
They laughed almost all night and stayed up until two a.m., but eventually Ria and Adrienne were sent to bed. "But that's not even fair!" Adrienne blubbered.
