"Because I say it is."
"Isn't just one box?"
"Yup."
"Then-"
"Oh, and one other thing: Don't fly. It's supposed to rain."
"Alright..."
He smiled,"That's it." he shoved his hands in his pockets and flew off.
"Weird, huh?" Mitchell said.
"Yeah..." Aaron trailed off. What would be so important that I would need Mitchell to be with me, AND I can't fly? Why wouldn't he want to send the box himself? "I guess we better go now."
"Probably."
Ria was walking aimlessly down the dreary streets of Dark City. It had begun raining, and the rain had started to pick up and get a little harder. She had been going to Dark city so much, that she had started memorizing a few streets. She felt a little guilty for spending so much time here instead of being in her hometown. She knew she had plenty of good reasons for wanting to be in Dark City, but she felt bad for neglecting Lilly so much. After all, they were best friends and Ria hadn't ever explained to Lilly why she was gone so often. Maybe I should go back and spend the day with Lilly... She thought. She decided that would be best, especially since she didn't want to rise too much suspicion since she had been in Dark City so much. Lilly tended to get a little paranoid when Ria wasn't around, and when she gets paranoid, she starts talking. She starts talking about everything that's bothering her to just about anyone! Ria couldn't afford Lilly blabbing off to someone about how much time she had been spending in Dark City. Not only did she have to conceal her family's secret, but now her and Aaron's secret! She started to turn and go back to Light City, when she heard a familiar voice complaining about walking. Is that Mitchell? She scanned the street to find that Mitchell was talking Aaron's ear off. Aaron was also carrying a large box that looked very heavy, although Mitchell didn't look like he was going to give him help anytime soon.
"Aaron!" she shouted over to him, before realizing how stupid that was. His friends can't know about them, and here she was yelling over to him like they were buddies! Than again, if The Council found out about it, it would be the perfect way to get to their headquarters! Plus, they're gonna find out sooner or later, and me and Addy are completely ready for this.
Aaron almost dropped the heavy box when he heard Ria's angelic voice ringing in his head. Please not now! Turn around while you can PLEASE! He silently prayed that she would leave while she could. Even though Ryan wasn't there, he couldn't talk to her and explain with Mitchell there. He started walking a little bit faster, but she caught up to them in no time flat by flying.
"Aaron? Did you hear me?"
"Hi."
She was taken back by his surprisingly harsh tone. "Aaron? Is something the matter?"
He felt terrible! This is worse than getting slapped, or her being mad at me! I wish she was mad at me! At least I would deserve that. Anything but compassion! As if he had ice in his blood, he turned cold eyes to her,"Leave me alone."
Mitchell failed at stifling a snort.
"A-Aaron! What did I do?"
"Just leave me alone, okay?" he begged her.
"But, Aaron!" she pleaded, exasperated by his evasive answers.
"Just leave me alone!" he shouted at her,"Go away! Leave! Go back from where you came! What other way must I explain it for you to understand?!" he shrieked.
She stepped back, wounded by his words,"Aaron..!" she whispered as her eyes filled up with tears. She tenderly stared into his cold, dismal eyes which were glaring into hers.
His eyes widened for only a second with shock, he could practically feel her staring straight into his soul as her eyes pierced their gaze into his. It was an emotion he showed for only a few seconds, he scrutinized her desolate face and turned away from her without saying a word. He was suddenly grateful that Ryan had wanted him to go on this errand. Since He was carrying this heavy box, it gave him an excuse to be shaking.
"AARON!" Ria screamed while tears streamed down her face. He stopped and turned to see a heartbroken Ria shaking and crying through the storm. He felt a stab of pain through his heart and starting to turn when she shrieked,"WHY?!"
He swallowed hard. Since Mitchell was still here, he would have to act heartless and respond,"Why, what?"
"Why would you act so cruel? It's not like you at all!"
"Because that's who I am." his voice was barely audible above the strong currents of the rain and wind.
"But I love you!"
He stopped dead in his tracks, unable to cover up his shock and remorse.
"I love you, Aaron."
Mitchell, too, was just as surprised or even more,"You should be hung, you wentch!"
She was still watching Aaron as if she hadn't heard Mitchell at all. "Aaron?" she whispered wishing he would say something.
Why would you be so careless, Ria! Maybe if I play this off, than she won't get reported. Besides, the law is that two people from Light and Dark City can't be in love. As long as they think I hate her, or at least don't love her, she'll be safe. "Go home." he spat at her.
She could feel her heart ripping in two. Her legs finally gave out and she sat on her knees sobbing.
Mitchell couldn't help but laugh as him and Aaron walked away from her. Ryan's plan went perfectly! he snickered I can't wait to tell him! We'll never have to deal with the likes of her ever again AND Aaron gets to learn his lesson!
It took all of Aaron's strength to continue walking all the way to Resaun, The Council's castle.
